Questions
How do I find the BPM of a song?
Upload the song or record it playing near your microphone, then press Find BPM and key. The tool listens for the beat and counts how many beats happen per minute.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded and analysed inside your browser. We only keep the result (the BPM and key) and a fingerprint of the file so the same file gets an instant answer next time.
What audio files can I use?
Anything your browser can play: usually MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC. We analyse up to the first two minutes, which is plenty to find the tempo and key.
Why does the BPM show as half or double what I expected?
Tempo can be counted at different levels: a 140 BPM track can feel like 70 BPM. We pick the most likely value between 70 and 180 BPM and also show the half and double tempo.
How accurate is the key detection?
It compares the notes in your audio with the typical note pattern of each of the 24 major and minor keys. It works best on songs with clear chords; songs that change key or have heavy drums can confuse it, so we also show the second most likely key.
Why do DJs and producers need the BPM and key?
Songs with a similar tempo and a compatible key blend smoothly in a mix or mashup, and knowing the BPM helps you time edits and TikTok videos to the beat.
